Caribbean Sea Jazz - Women rule!

The 2nd day of the Caribbean Sea Jazz 2015 I really have to give to the women. They were simply outstanding. My absolute favorite and the biggest surprise was Jessy J. Ok, I'm biased...becuz the sax is my favorite instrument and I was personally serenaded, but still... They way she engages with the audience is charming.

The other woman who got my heart was Maite Hontele. Earlier in the day, I saw her conducting a workshop with 6 and 7-year-old kids. She got them dancing and singing in the classroom. The kids had a lot of fun and afterward. But in the evening Maite had the notes, the moves, the charm and the public. It was very enjoyable. She again mentioned the influence of Oscar D'Leon in her career, thanks to Caribbean Sea Jazz 2012. This Dutch girl, living in Columbia is outspoken and knows what she wants..she will reach very high destinations.

Then there was this local group of young musicians. A little bit stiff but that didn't stop them from entertaining their audience. The closing of the festival was by Grupo Niche. They owned it with their salsa. Not completely my cup of tea, so I watched them for half an hour and left. This latin night of CSJ was a good moment. Talking with friends a few of them were more in love with the Saturday than the Friday, but honestly, the Friday had won me over.

As a press group from Suriname, we got a great treatment from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA). You get to see the island, taste the food and enjoy the city. I was in great company: thank you Amayra for taking such good care of us.

But also compliments to CSJ. It was a flawless organization...well for as far as I could see and experience. Surinamers should really consider visiting this jazz festival. It's an enjoyment with a great setup. At least you can start planning now because the next festival is on September 23 and 24, 2016 and two names are already confirmed: Kool & the Gang and Snarky Puppy. For either one of them, I know for sure that next year I again will be standing at the Renassaince Festival Plaza. Are you joining me?
